Extrication Accident Seriously Injures Two on I-70

Columbia and Boone County Fire Fighters were called at 3:44 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2009 to the westbound lanes of Interstate 70, at the intersection of Highway 63, for a report of an injury accident.

Fire Fighters arrived and found a gray Toyota Avalon in the north median between I-70 and the westbound on-ramp from Highway 63.  The vehicle had sustained heavy damage from impacting the end of a guardrail.  Fire crews discovered two victims trapped inside the car.  It took rescue crews approximately 18 minutes, using hydraulic rescue equipment, to free the victims.  Both victims were transported to University Hospital by ambulance with life threatening injuries.
