LIGHTNING STRIKES HOME IN EAST COLUMBIA
Columbia, Mo – Firefighters were dispatched to 910 Eastland Rd a reported residential structure fire caused by a lightning strike around 9 p.m.
Josephine Phillipe and her care provider were in the home at the time of the lightning strike and neither was injured.
When Firefighters arrived a visible burn mark was on the exterior Southwest corner of the home but no fire was ever found. Firefighters did find several circuit breakers “tripped” and a light smoke haze in the basement near the fuse box. As a precautionary measure the Water & Light division was called to remove the meter from the house preventing electrical power to the house. It was later discovered that the meter belonged to Boone Electric who also responded to the incident to retrieve the meter.
No initial damage estimate is available at this time. Ms. Phillipe will stay with a relative until repairs can be made to her residence.
