Tractor-Trailer Accident Injures Two
Columbia Fire Fighters were called at 7:31 a.m. on Monday, June 15, 2009 to the westbound lanes of Interstate 70, near the intersection of Highway 63, for a report of an injury accident.
Fire Fighters arrived and found three passenger vehicles and one tractor-trailer involved. Two of the passenger vehicles and the tractor-trailer had sustained heavy damage. Fire crews discovered two injured victims and administered emergency medical care. Both victims were transported to Boone Hospital Center with minor injuries.
Fire crews did discover a significant leak of diesel fuel from a ruptured saddle tank on the tractor-trailer. The leak was contained using a containment pool and absorbent materials. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources was notified of the incident. The total amount of fuel spilled was less than 50 gallons.
Fire crews remained on-scene for approximately three hours while the tractor-trailer and debris was cleared.
