FIRE IN THE GARAGE STARTLES HOME OWNERS
AND GUEST

Columbia, Mo – A fire in the garage startled Steve and Dana Fedemia while they were entertaining guests in their home at 2408 Katy Lane.  Around 3:43 p.m. Fire fighters were called to a residential structure fire that was reported in the garage of the residence.

Fire fighters arrived to find light smoke showing and the garage door badly burned.  Although the flames were out when crews arrived a hose line was still pulled to the front of the house.  Fire crews performed overhaul to check for fire extinction into the attic and other parts of the garage.  No other active fire was found and there was no damage to the rest of the house.

Mrs. Fedemia reported that she saw light smoke from the window (while her and two guests were inside) that she assumed was from their grill.  It wasn’t until Mr. Fedemia came from the pool in the back yard that the fire was discovered.  He quickly told his wife to call 9-1-1 while he grabbed a garden hose to extinguish the fire.

Investigators on the scene stated that the fire originated in the front left corner of the garage.  The initial damage estimate is listed at $5000 and the cause remains under investigation.
