Columbia Fire Fighters were called at 6:41 PM on Saturday, August 15, 2009 to 1300 Haven Road for a report of a structure fire.
Arriving crews found heavy fire and smoke from the front two windows of the single family home. A neighbor who reported the fire told fire investigators a child told him the house next door was on fire. The neighbor who reported the fire also told fire fighters he believed the occupants of the home had left shortly before the fire however he believed that two dogs may be inside the home.
Fire fighters staged an aggressive exterior attack and after knocking down the bulk of the fire, began an interior attack which had the fire out in about 15 minutes.
Fire fighters conducted a primary and secondary search of the home and located one pet, a family dog, which had perished in the fire.
Damage to the home and contents was extensive and is estimated in excess of $60,000.00.
