Columbia, Mo – Columbia Fire Fighters, EMS Personnel, and Columbia Police responded to a report of an injury crash at 12:45 PM on Thursday, September, 23, 2009 Highway 63 North, just north of the Connector.

Responding units were advised the crash involved a school bus and a passenger vehicle.

Arriving emergency crews determined that there were 45 children and one driver on the school bus, and one adult and two small children in the passenger vehicle.

All of the children on the school bus were evaluated and one child complained of neck pain. That child was transported to a local hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries for further evaluation. The other children were transferred to a second bus brought to the scene by First Student Transportation which then took them home. The passengers on the school bus were from the Oakland and Lange Schools.

The female driver of the passenger vehicle was treated on the scene and transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Fire fighters used hydraulic tools to open the drivers’ door which would not open on the drivers side of the vehicle. Two children under the age of 5 were in the vehicle; both properly buckled into child passenger safety seats and were not injured. The children were transported with their mother to the hospital.

All questions regarding the names of those involved and the cause of the crash should be directed to the Columbia Police Department. No additional information is available from the fire department.
