Fire Damages Central City Home

Columbia Fire Fighters were called at 6:46 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 to 307 Duncan Street for a report of a structure fire.

On arrival, fire crews found smoke and flames coming from the rear of the home.  Crews entered the home and extinguished the fire in the utility room within approximately 10 minutes.  The home suffered significant fire damage in the rear portion with heavy smoke and heat damage throughout the remaining areas.  There were no injuries and the damage is estimated at $50,000 to the rental home owned by Mike Monohan of Columbia.

No one was home at the time of the fire.  Neighbors noticed smoke coming from the home and called 9-1-1 for fire department assistance.

Investigators from the Columbia Fire Department were on-scene and at this time, the cause remains under investigation.

The American Red Cross is providing emergency assistance to the occupants of the home as a result of this fire.
