Morning Accident Leaves Vehicle In Harmony Creek
Columbia Fire Fighters were called at 9:50 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 to the 3300 Block of I-70 Drive Southwest for a report of an extrication accident. Initial reports indicated that a vehicle was on its top, in Harmony Creek, with a victim trapped under the car.
Fire Fighters arrived and found a white 2-door Honda Accord on its top in the creek. Fire crews discovered one victim, partially ejected from the driver's side window; however, not trapped under the car. The victim was conscious and talking with rescuers during the rescue. It took rescue crews approximately seven minutes to free the victim. The male victim was transported to University Hospital by ambulance with moderate injuries.
Due to the steep bank of the creek, fire crews utilized a Stokes Basket and ropes to bring the victim out of the creek.
A small amount of oil did leak from the car into Harmony Creek as a result of the accident. Fire crews controlled the oil to minimize any environmental impact. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources was notified of the incident.
