One Dead after I-70 Accident and Fire

Columbia Fire Department and Boone County Fire Protection District Fire Fighters were called at 1:42 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 to the 129.6 mile marker of Interstate 70 westbound for a report of a vehicle accident.

Fire Fighters arrived and found a small Toyota SUV off the roadway, resting in a wooded area, fully engulfed in flames.  It took fire crews approximately 10 minutes to extinguish the flames.  After the fire was extinguished, crews discovered one deceased occupant trapped inside the vehicle.  After the scene examination was completed by the Columbia Police Department and the Boone County Medical Examiner, crews used hydraulic rescue equipment to remove the victim from the vehicle.

There were no other injuries related to this accident.
