Vehicle Fire Reveals Suspected Mobile Meth Lab
Columbia Fire Department and Boone County Fire Protection District Fire Fighters were called at 1:26 p.m. on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 to 5704 Freedom Drive for a report of a vehicle fire.
Fire Fighters arrived and found an older model Dodge Ram Charger, parked at the dead end of Freedom Drive, with flames coming from the engine and passenger compartments. It took fire crews approximately 10 minutes to extinguish the flames. After the flames were extinguished, fire crews discovered evidence consistent with a possible mobile Methamphetamine production lab near and inside the vehicle. Law enforcement officials were notified and responded.
There were no injuries related to this incident.
One male, identified from bystanders as the occupant of the vehicle, was taken into custody by Deputies from the Boone County Sheriff's Department.
Investigators from the Columbia Fire Department were on-scene and have determined the fire originated in the engine compartment of the vehicle; however, the exact cause remains under investigation.
