Accident Traps Two Victims

Columbia Fire Fighters were called at 11:35 p.m. on Monday, February 1, 2010 to the intersection of East Broadway and Keene Streets for a report of an extrication accident.

Fire Fighters arrived and found a 2002 Silver GMC Envoy, which had left the roadway, severed a utility pole, and was resting on its side in a ravine.  Fire crews discovered two male victims, the driver and one passenger, trapped inside the SUV.  Crews used equipment to stabilize the vehicle and removed the trapped victims, one through the passenger side door and the other through the sunroof.  It took crews approximately 20 minutes to free the victims, who were then transported by ambulance to the hospital with moderate injuries.  One victim was transported to University Hospital and the other to Boone Hospital.

There were no other injuries related to this incident.
