Fire Damages Local Restaurant and Game Store

Columbia Fire Fighters were called at 6:34 a.m. on Thursday April 15, 2010 to 901 Nifong Blvd, the El Maguey Mexican Restaurant, for a report of a commercial structure fire.

Fire crews responding from nearby Columbia Fire Stations 7 and 8 were first on the scene and reported a large amount of smoke from the roof of the structure upon their arrival at 6:36. Fire crews forced entry and reported heavy smoke conditions upon entering the structure. Active fire was located in the kitchen with damage extending to the walls and attic. The fire was contained within fifteen minutes. Large fans were then used to remove the smoke and heat from the restaurant.

Crews also found the business in the lower level of the structure, Valhalla's Gate, had smoke and water damage to the store and its contents. After the fire was contained in the upper level crews began removing the smoke from the lower level with large fans.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and at this time damage estimates have not been determined. The El Maguey Mexican Restaurant has been in business at this location since May of 1999.
