Rollover Accident Traps Victim Inside Car

Columbia Fire Department and Boone County Fire District personnel were dispatched at 5:05 p.m. on Saturday, May 01, 2010 to the 122 mile marker of westbound Interstate 70 for a reported extrication accident.

Fire Fighters arrived and found a white 1995 Monte Carlo upright and blocking the passing lane of westbound I-70. Inside the vehicle was a female victim, the driver, that was trapped because of the damage to the vehicle. Witnesses indicated the vehicle was eastbound, crossed the center divider, and rolled several times before coming to rest on westbound side of the highway. Crews stabilized the vehicle and then used specialized hydraulic equipment to extricate the victim in approximately 10 minutes. She was then transported by ambulance to University Hospital with fire assistance. 

Both lanes of westbound I-70 were blocked for approximately 25 minutes while crews worked at the scene.  

The Columbia Fire Department reminds all motorists to remember to use their seat belts. Seat belts save lives.
