<DIV align=left><STRONG>City of Columbia<BR>Planning and Zoning Commission<BR>Comprehensive Plan Task Force<BR></STRONG> <BR>April 29, 2011<BR> <BR>RE: Planning Columbia’s Future<BR> <BR>Hello:<BR> <BR>As you may have read or heard, Columbia is developing a new comprehensive plan. A comprehensive plan is a general plan for the city that recommends the future the community envisions and the steps it must take to get there. Properly done, a plan reflects thoughtful study and careful consideration of input from all corners of the community. A plan is only as good as the breadth of ideas, suggestions, and critical perspectives that are welcomed in the process. We need and must have participation by people from all walks of life. <BR> <BR>To get started, you are cordially invited to the first of several public meetings on the Columbia comprehensive plan, <STRONG>Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at 6:00 P.M. in rooms 1A and 1B, City Hall Addition, 701 East Broadway. </STRONG> Light refreshments will be served. We hope you will join us for this meeting and the others that will follow. <BR> <BR>The purpose of our first phase of meetings, <STRONG>“What is the Plan?”,</STRONG> is to roll out the steps for completing Columbia Imagined: A Comprehensive Plan for a Sustainable Community. Subsequent forums this year will involve the public in identifying Columbia’s defining characteristics (Who Are We?), identifying issues (What Are We Concerned About?), reviewing growth scenarios & setting goals (Where Do We Want to Go?), and ultimately deciding how we need to carry out our preferred plan (How Do We Get There?). At this first, mostly informational, session we will<BR>review the approach and schedule, request feedback, and ask participants how they would like to be involved in the planning effort going forward.</DIV>
