(COLUMBIA, MO) -
A new City of Columbia Unified Development Code (UDC) is available for the public to view before the Oct. 20 public hearing.

The UDC is being revised to amend outdated provisions, create a more usable document and consolidate generally all things "development" into a single location. The most significant change the UDC will bring is the adoption of a form-based zoning district, the M-DT (Mixed-use Downtown), for the downtown that will replace the current C-2 (General Business) zoning district. The new UDC also aligns many of its regulatory provisions with the City's 2013 Comprehensive Plan - Columbia Imagined the Plan for How We Live and Grow.

The code revision process began in January 2014 with the assistance of Clarion Associates and Ferrell-Madden the City's code consultants. A final integrated draft was produced by the consultants in October 2015 which was followed by a series of public information and comment sessions held during the months of May, June and July 2016. Following the information and comment sessions and after review of the 208 public comments received the Planning and Zoning Commission along with staff revised the draft code to produce the public hearing draft.
The UDC can be found at the Daniel Boone Regional Library, City Hall reception desk and online: http://www.como.gov/community-development/. The public hearing on the proposed Unified Development Code will be held on
Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers of City Hall, 701 E. Broadway. Question or comments relating to the proposed code should be directed to the Tim Teddy, director, or Patrick Zenner, development services manager of the City's Community Development Department at 573-874-7239.
