<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display:inline;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Wednesday, Dec. 14 will be Deputy City Manager Tony St. Romaine's last day with the City of Columbia after dedicating 32 years to public service.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">St. Romaine started with the City on Aug. 6, 1984 as a buyer in the Purchasing Department. At the time, St. Romaine had several ideas about what he wanted to do in his career. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">His interest in law enforcement took him to the Law Enforcement Training Institute at the University of Missouri where he became a certified police officer. He spent several years in the late 80s and early 90s as a reserve police officer with the Columbia Police Department, working with them after his regular work day.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">That's when he decided he wanted to strive for a job in administration. He earned a bachelor's degree in business and finance from Columbia College and a master's degree in public administration from the University of Missouri in 2000.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"> He performed many jobs in the Purchasing Department and became the purchasing agent for the City in 2000. In 2006, St. Romaine was hired as an assistant city manager and was promoted to deputy city manager in 2011.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">One of his most memorable projects was also one of his first working in the City Manager's Office. He worked with the construction management team of the new City Hall building and said he's proud of all the work that went into the project and the impact it had on downtown.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">St. Romaine said the construction of the new City Hall, revitalization of the Tiger Hotel, the Broadway Hotel project, and the construction of the parking garages at Fifth and Walnut and Short Street Garage helped bring more life to downtown.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">"Those projects made a big impact on the viability and livability of downtown," St. Romaine said.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In his retirement, St. Romaine will be traveling, focusing on leisure activities such as art, and joining his wife Sherri in selling real estate. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">"I'm certainly going to miss the challenges, I love a new challenge, and building consensus with different groups around town about the many different issues that we deal with," St. Romaine said. "I'm going to miss the people who I've worked with for many, many years."</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A public retirement reception will be held on Monday, Dec. 12 at 3 p.m. in the Council Chambers with refreshments in conference room 1A at City Hall, 701 E. Broadway.</span></p>
