(COLUMBIA, MO) -
The next phase of the Flat Branch Sewer project is scheduled to begin on Dec. 20, with an estimated completion date of Jan. 27, 2017, weather permitting.

This phase will take place from Stewart Road to the power plant, and will affect the paved section of the MKT Trail from Elm Street to Stewart.

The trail detour will include the sidewalks on the south side of Elm Street and east side of Providence Road. Trail users should plan to use the on-street crossing at the intersection of Providence and Stewart.

The sewer project includes replacing and upgrading old sewer pipes that serve a large portion of the downtown area. Some of the sewer pipes are the original infrastructure from the early 1900s. The investment in the City's sanitary sewer infrastructure with this project is $3,879,650 and is funded through Sanitary Sewer Utility Capital Improvement funds. Sterling Excavation of Jefferson City is the contractor on the project.

Project impact and project update information is available on the web at CoMo.gov/fbrs.

We appreciate trail users' patience and understanding while we work to improve Columbia's sanitary sewer infrastructure.
