(COLUMBIA, MO) -
The City of Columbia Parking Utility began replacing, installing and upgrading nearly 800 downtown parking meters on Monday. The process started ahead of the previously announced start date of Jan. 7.

"We looked at the weather forecast and saw potential delays if we stayed on the announced schedule," said Parking Supervisor Tanner Morrell. "So we took advantage of the favorable weather conditions to get a jump start on installing the new meters. We were able to do that because most of the meter assemblies came in earlier than expected."

New meters have been installed along several areas of Broadway and Walnut, as well as North Ninth and 10th streets, Cherry and Hitt. The 10-hour meters on Fifth Street have also been updated. Crews will continue to work along Ash and the north areas of downtown throughout the week depending on the weather. Installations into next week will be dependent on delivery of additional equipment.

The new meters accept coins, the Parkmobile app and the CoMo Park Card, the City's new pre-paid parking card.

The CoMo Park Cards are available now free of charge at the Public Works Department on the third floor of City Hall, 701 E. Broadway. Customers must load their card with a minimum of $10. Customers who already have an EZ Park Card may transfer balances to the CoMo Park Card free of charge. Staff is also available to show customers how to use the CoMo Park Card.

For more information on the new meters and CoMo Park Cards, follow Columbia Public Works on Facebook and Twitter. You can also visit CoMo.gov/PublicWorks/Parking.
