(COLUMBIA, MO) - On Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 5:44 PM, units from the Columbia Fire Department were dispatched to 605 Business Loop 70 East (Ashland Auto Sales) for a commercial structure fire. An employee of the business discovered the fire as he was closing up for the evening. Crews arrived four minutes later and found a fire in the attic space of the shop portion of the structure.

Crews used a combination of elevated master streams and handlines to control the fire. The fire was under control in approximately 30 minutes. Due to crews aggressive strategy, the fire was contained to the attic portion of the structure. Water damage was sustained throughout the shop area. There were no injuries reported.

Assistant Fire Marshal Mike Bauer investigated the fire. He determined the fire originated in the attic and the cause was electrical. Damag
es are estimated at $200,000.
