(COLUMBIA, MO) - On Monday, April 4, 2017 at 7:09 PM, units from the Columbia Fire Department were dispatched to 1300 White Oak Lane for a residential structure fire. Boone County Joint Communications received multiple calls reporting flames visible from the roof of a residential structure.

Fire crews arrived on the scene four minutes after dispatch and found a two-story residence with fire showing from the roof. An aggressive fire attack was initiated using an aerial waterway and multiple handlines. The fire was brought under control in approximately 30 minutes.

Fire crews conducted overhaul operations for three hours after the fire was controlled to make sure all hot spots were extinguished.

Two adults and four children were in the residence at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.

Assistant Fire Marshal Mike Bauer determin
ed the fire originated in a second-floor bathroom. He determined the fire was caused by embers from a torch which was used earlier in the day for plumbing repairs. Damages are estimated at $150,000.

A total of eight Columbia Fire Department units responded to the scene.
