<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:200%;"><h3 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px;  margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 170%;">Interested Parties Meeting - Bioreactor Cell 6 and Lechate Handling and Storage Project</h3>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display:inline;">Columbia Utilities - Solid Waste Division, will hold an open house format Interested Parties meeting concerning the proposed construction of Cell  6 and the construction of a Leachate Handling and Storage project.<br /><br />The Interested Parties meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 26 from 5:30 to 6:30 PM at City Hall, 701 East Broadway in Conference Room 1A. City staff will be present with materials showing the proposed projects. Comments will be accepted at the meeting both verbally and written comment forms will be available. All comment forms will be attached to the council memos. Information on the comments forms is public information.<br /><br /><strong>Bioreactor Cell  6 -</strong><br /><br />Trash is currently being placed in Bioreactor Landfill Cell 5, which is anticipated to reach intermediate capacity in the October 2017. Once Cell 5 reaches intermed
 
 iate capacity, trash will be placed on top of Cells 1-4 until Cell 6 is completed.</p>
<p><br />The proposed Bioreactor Landfill Cell 6 is the last area to be constructed within the permitted airspace. With the current volume of trash received at the Columbia Landfill, it is anticipated Cell 6 will be filled to intermediate capacity in approximately 5 years.<br /><br /><strong>Leachate Handling and Storage Project -</strong><br /><br />The landfill leachate collection and storage system currently collects leachate from Cells 1-5, has the ability to inject leachate into Cells 4 and can discharge leachate to the sanitary sewer system as needed. Discharging the landfill leachate to the sanitary sewer system is the most cost effective disposal option for the Solid Waste Utility.<br /><br />In order to comply with state and federal regulations, the Sewer Utility issued an industrial pre-treatment permit to the landfill as a condition of accepting landfill leachate into the sanitary sewer collection system. The pre-treatment permit limits the ammonia concentrations t
 
 hat are allowed in the leachate.<br /><br />The proposed leachate handling and storage improvement project provides leachate treatment to reduce ammonia concentrations.  This proactive measure will help ensure the landfill remains in compliance with the pre-treatment permit.</p></div>
