(COLUMBIA, MO) - The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a vehicle fire at 401 Williams Street at 5:08pm on Monday, May 15, 2017.

Fire crews arrived less than five minutes later and observed fire coming from the rear, drivers side wheel well of an electric City bus. Fire Department personnel deployed a pre-connected hose line and quickly extinguished the fire.

Fire Investigator, Assistant Fire Marshal Jim Pasley was dispatched to perform an origin and cause fire investigation. He was able to determine the origin of the fire was the driver's side rear wheel. The extent of the damage and complexity of the wheel assembly made it impossible for him to determine a cause.

An engineer and mechanic from the manufacturer were on site Monday evening inspecting this vehicle. They will be inspecting the rest of the electric fleet today, Tuesday, May 16th. Th
e damaged vehicle will be shipped back to the manufacturer this week for further testing and repairs.

There was one person, the driver, on the bus at the time of the incident. There were no reported injuries.
