<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:200%;"><h3 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px;  margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 170%;">Gas Odor Call at 500 Walnut Street Unit 109</h3>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a gas odor inside a building at 500 Walnut Street, unit 109, Taj Mahal Restaurant on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at 8:21am.<br /><br />Fire crews arrived less than five minutes later and could smell gas from the street.  Ameren UE had been notified at approximately the same time as the fire department and arrived on the scene a few minutes later.<br /><br />Fire crews gained access to the restaurant and noted high levels of natural gas at the door using specialized gas monitoring equipment.  Ameren UE also picked up high gas readings on their monitors.<br /><br />Adjacent businesses were evacuated and fire crews immediately began ventilating the space. Once air quality improved Ameren UE and fire crews inspected all gas appliances using gas monitors and determined gas was coming from kitchen appliances.<br /><br />While it is always the
 
  fire department's practice to work with business owners to remedy fire code violations without impacting their business, in this instance a notice of violation was issued and unfortunately, the restaurant will not be allowed to operate until those violations are remedied.<br /><br />    </div>
