<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:200%;"><h3 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px;  margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 170%;">City crews remove debris from Saturday night event downtown</h3>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display:inline;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Monday, June 19, crews from the City of Columbia Street Division and Stormwater Utility responded to what appeared to be a large amount of polystyrene debris in the roadway, alley and stormwater inlets near My House Nightclub and Sports Bar located at 119 S. Seventh St. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Preliminary investigation determined that an event hosted at the building on Saturday, June 17 used Styrofoam-like packing material to simulate snow. The event company has indicated, however, that the material is not Styrofoam but a cornstarch-based material that is water soluble and nontoxic. The City of Columbia Stormwater Utility and University of Missouri Environmental Health and Safety are working to determine the exact makeup of the material. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Street crews cleaned up the debris from the alley and streets around the business and have been sweeping the debris from the public right of ways. Stormwater crews evaluated the materials in the stormwater drains and determined it was the same material as was in the alley, street and sidewalk. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Stormwater Utility crews are determining the best course of action based on the findings of the exact composition of the material. As a precaution, the City has notified the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MoDNR) of the material in the storm drains which may have reached a creek or tributary. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The City has notified the property owner and will work with the property owner to determine financial liability for the cleanup of the materials. The Downtown Community Improvement District (CID) is also aware of this situation. </span></p></div>
