<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - On Thursday, June 29, 2017, at 3:19 PM, units from the Columbia Fire Department responded to a report of a fire alarm with smoke in a hallway at 3700 Lenoir St (Lenoir Senior Services).  Crews arrived six minutes later and found a fire on the stove of an unoccupied apartment had been extinguished by the automatic sprinkler system.  There were no reported injuries and damage was limited to one apartment.<br /><br />Assistant Fire Marshal Kyle Edwards investigated the fire and has ruled the fire accidental.  The cause was a stove being inadvertently turned on, igniting combustibles being used to pack items for a move.  The occupants had left the apartment before the fire started.  Smoke and water damages are estimated at $15,000.  Edwards stated without the presence of a sprinkler system, fire damages would have likely been significant.<br /><br />The National Fire 
 
 Protection Association reports fires in buildings equipped with automatic sprinklers were controlled in 96% of the time.  </div>
