<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:200%;"><h3 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px; margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 170%;">"Cornerstones of Columbia" event celebrates historic Coca-Cola Bottling Co. and Varsity Theater</h3>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display:inline;">City of Columbia Historic Preservation Commission and the Cornerstones of Columbia Planning Team, will be holding an event Monday, July 24, 2017 in celebration of two downtown historic structures that have enriched the lives of ordinary Columbians since 1927 and 1935. </p>
<p>The community is invited to join commissioners and business owners in the unveiling of commemorative plaques on the former Coca-Cola Bottling Co., now Hittsville, home of Ragtag, Uprise Bakery and Hitt Records, at 10 Hitt Street, and the former Varsity Theater, now The Blue Note, at 17 North Ninth St.</p>
<p>The all ages event will be free to the community and will have family friendly entertainment. The event will begin at 5:30 with the unveiling of a plaque at 10 Hitt Street followed by second unveiling outside The Blue Note shortly thereafter. Inside the Blue Note there will be music by the Gaslight Squares, archival film footage and specialty cocktails from the 1920's and 1930's (cash bar). A door prize drawing, free snacks, and special guests in period dress will round out the celebration. </p>
<p>The event is sponsored by the City of Columbia Historic Preservation Commission, The Blue Note and Hittsville LLC, with generous funding from Central Bank of Boone County.</p>

<p><strong>The Historic Preservation Commission</strong> works to inform and educate the citizens of the City of Columbia concerning the historic, archaeological and architectural heritage of the city through publication or sponsorship of maps, newsletters, brochures, pamphlets, programs, events and seminars by the city, the historic preservation commission or other appropriate parties. Additionally, the commission investigates and recommends to the City Council of Columbia, Missouri the adoption of ordinances designating protection areas as having special cultural, historic, archeological, community or architectural value as "notable property", "landmarks" or "historic districts"; keeps a register of all properties and structures which have been designated as "notable property", "landmark" or "historic districts"; and informs and educates the citizens of Columbia concerning the historic, archeological and architectural heritage of the City.</p></div>
