<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display:inline;"><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">Three major phases of the Providence Road Improvement Project are scheduled to begin Aug. 11, weather permitting. </span></em></p>
<p><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">1) New traffic signals and pedestrian crossings on Providence are scheduled to begin service. 2) The Rollins Street signal will be deactivated and removed. 3) Access to Rollins Street is closing for construction.</span></em></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Columbia Public Works announced on Wednesday, Aug. 9, that on Friday, Aug. 11, the newly installed Providence Road traffic signals and pedestrian crossings at Burnam Road and Turner Avenue/University Heights are scheduled to begin service. Additionally, the Rollins Street signal will go out of service, and access to Rollins will close for construction of new pavement, sidewalks and a right-turn lane.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">"Extension of the southbound right-turn lane onto Stadium from Providence Road is in progress as well, and the intersection at Brandon Road and Providence will close in the next week to facilitate the improvements at Brandon Road," </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Construction Project Superintendent </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">David Fennewald said. "</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">The intersection at Kentucky has already been completed."</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Providence will continue to remain open during the work. Motorists, pedestrians and nonmotorized transportation users are urged to exercise extreme caution when passing through the work zone.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /><br /></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Providence Road Improvement Project remains on schedule for completion by early fall 2017. <p><strong>Project Phase Updates:</strong></p>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>New Traffic Signals:</strong><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Installation of traffic signals along Providence Road at the intersection with Burnam Road and at the intersection with Turner Avenue. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /></span><strong><br />Progress:</strong><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Signals are expected to go online Aug. 11.</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Traffic Signal Removal:</strong><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Removal of the existing traffic signal along Providence Road at the intersection with Rollins Street.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /></span><strong><br />Progress:</strong><span style="font-weight: 400;">The signal will be turned off and signal heads bagged on Aug. 11. Poles and bases are expected to be removed the week of Aug. 14. A right-turn lane is being constructed for northbound Providence onto Rollins as well as sidewalks and new pavement.</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>New Sidewalk:</strong><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Construction of a sidewalk along the south side of Burnam Road from Birch Road to Providence Road. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /></span><strong><br />Progress:</strong><span style="font-weight: 400;">This phase of the project is scheduled to be one of the last items on the project so that intersections are completed first.</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Two Signalized Crosswalks: </strong><span style="font-weight: 400;">Enhancing the crosswalks at the signalized intersections at Turner and Burnam to meet or exceed current standards, including pedestrian signals. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /></span><strong><br />Progress: </strong><span style="font-weight: 400;">Aug. 11 is the expected date to bring these online.</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Southbound right turn lane: </strong><span style="font-weight: 400;">Extension of the southbound right turn lane onto Stadium Boulevard from Providence Road.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /></span><strong><br />Progress:</strong><span style="font-weight: 400;">The contractor is working in this area now. </span></li>
</ul>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Intersection access improvements: </strong><span style="font-weight: 400;">The intersections of Providence Road with Bingham Road and Kentucky Boulevard will be converted to right-in/right-out/left-in. The intersections of Providence Road with Rollins Street and Brandon Road will be converted to right-in/right-out. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br /></span><strong><br />Progress:</strong><span style="font-weight: 400;">Kentucky Boulevard is completed. Bingham will be the last intersection to be worked on. Converting the Rollins Street and Brandon Road intersections is currently in progress.</span></li>
