(COLUMBIA, MO) -
Columbia Police officers arrested Mark Saxon Gianoli, 35, and Howard Dean Nichols, 38, both of Columbia after officers located evidence of meth production inside a car at a Columbia park.

Officers were dispatched to 3725 South Scott Boulevard, Jay Dix Station MKT Park, at 3:05 p.m. today for an unknown problem. Boone County Joint Communications advised two people were passed out inside a vehicle in the parking lot. Upon officers' arrival, they made contact with Gianoli and Nichols, who were identified as the occupants of the vehicle and were being checked out by Columbia Fire Department personnel. A search of Gianoli's person located a capped needle and two pipes in his pocket. Officers then searched the vehicle and located the following:

A large plastic bottle which had a strong chemical smell coming from it,

13 Clonazepam pills in a pill bottle,

16 Lorazepam pills in a pill bottle,

Several items related to the production of methamphetamine.

Officers determined the plastic bottle contained the items combined to produce methamphetamine. Officers evacuated the park and the Columbia Fire Hazardous Materials Truck responded to assist with clean-up. The scene was cleared and the park was reopened at approximately 6:15 p.m.

Gianoli was arrested at 3:24 p.m. for Felony Distribution/Delivery/Manufacture/Produce of a Controlled Substance, Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Felony Possession of Drug Paraphernalia with bonds to be set by the Court, as well as Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia with a release on Municipal summons.

Nichols was arrested at 5:30 p.m. for Felony Distribution/Delivery/Manufacture/Produce of a Controlled Substance and Felony Possession of Drug Paraphernalia with bonds to be set by the Court.
