<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:200%;"><h3 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px;  margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 170%;">Private Common Collector Elimination project has begun along Lathrop Road</h3>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display:inline;">The City of Columbia Sewer Utility has begun the first phase of its Private Common Collection Elimination (PCCE) project number eight at Lathrop Road and South Garth.  In an effort to reduce congestion and interference with crews and equipment, pedestrians should avoid the area and use alternative MKT Trail access points located at Stewart Road or Lakeshore Drive.</p>
<p>The focus of PCCE projects is to remove private sewers which have not been maintained and often experience problems with stoppages, backups and overflows due to deterioration.  By replacing private collectors with a City maintained sewer, the utility can increase capacity and quality of pipes and their connections which will reduce instances of inflow, infiltration into the system and overflow into local waterways.</p>
<p>Construction for this project includes connection with 74 homes located on Thilly, Lathrop, Westmount, Garth and Stewart and will progress through the neighborhood over the next few years.  During this time, Water & Light will also replace water and electric lines in the area.  Relocating the water mains into the right-of-way will allow for a more maintainable water distribution system while improving the dependability and fire flow capabilities of the area.</p>
<p>Motorists, nonmotorized transportation users and pedestrians should use caution in the area as construction continues. </p></div>
