<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - Columbia Mayor Brian Treece will welcome Commander David Edgerton, Lieutenant Ian M. Sugg, and Electrician's Mate Second Class Jacob Z. Rey from the Pearl Harbor based USS Columbia (SSN771) Los Angeles Class nuclear submarine during an informal reception on Thursday, Sept. 14 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in rooms 1A/1B at City Hall, 701 E. Broadway. Treece's remarks and a Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting will take place at 5 p.m. The reception is open to the public, and the media is welcome. <br /><br />The crew will be in Columbia Sept. 13-16, during their time they will teach University of Missouri NROTC students and present at Benton Elementary School. The crew will tour the Columbia Fire Department, Veterans Homeless Shelter, MU Veterans Center, VA Hospital, MU Center for Power and Physical Electronics and Columbia College. They will also attend a Veterans of Foreign Wars dinner on Friday, and attend 
 
 the MU vs. Purdue football game on Saturday. <br /><br /> The USS Columbia was christened in September 1994 by then First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, who was the boat's sponsor. The boat's commissioning took place on Oct. 9, 1995; the submarine has namesake cities in Missouri, Illinois and South Carolina. Columbia, Mo., and the USS Columbia is one of the Navy's longest, continuously active namesake city programs. <br /><br />USS Columbia ties include the University of Missouri, Columbia College, and local businesses and organizations. During an early visit to Columbia's Flat Branch Pub & Brewing, crew members enjoyed their visit so much that they named their crew dining area Flat Branch Café. The dining area features a Flat Branch logo modified for them by owner Tom Smith, and Mizzou banners and posters. The crew entertainment system, a gift from all three namesake cities, was custom designed for the submarine by D&M Sound. Veterans United Foundation helped f
