(COLUMBIA, MO) - Columbia Utilities employees traveled to Florida to assist with Hurricane Irma recovery as part of the Missouri Public Utility Alliance (MPUA) mutual aid network.

From Columbia, 10 employees traveled with two digger derrick trucks, two bucket trucks and two crew cab trucks. They are part of the MPUA mutual aid network of 41 lineworkers from Missouri and Arkansas who traveled to Orlando to help restore power to municipalities impacted by Hurricane Irma. Lineworkers from other states are also responding to help with power restoration.

According to MPUA, they received a call for mutual aid assistance from the Florida Municipal Electric Association on Sept. 6 and local crews began traveling to Florida the next day. The crews will be staged and ready for recovery after the hurricane hits.

A mutual aid program allows utility workers to help during widespread outages in ot
her communities, as well as here in our area when needed. Columbia Utilities pays the salaries of the lineworkers and then will be reimbursed by the utilities they assisted.

Columbia Utilities is proud to be able to help others in a time of need.
