<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display: inline;">The Columbia Fire Department and Columbia Professional Fire Fighters will kick off Fire Prevention Week 2017 at the Columbia Mall on Sunday, October 8 from 1:00pm - 3:00pm in the parking lot by the Sears / Dillards wing.</p>
<p>Members of the Columbia Fire Department, Lowes, Safe Kids Coalition, Boone Hospital ambulance service, University Hospital ambulance service and Firehouse Subs will be on-hand.  </p>
<p>Festivities include:</p>
<ul style="list-style-type: square;">
<li>Junior Fire Fighter Combat Challenge that gives small children a chance to put on kid sized fire fighting gear and navigate an obstacle course with fire fighters  </li>
<li>Live cooking fire demonstration (approximately 2pm)</li>
<li>Free barbecued hot dogs while supplies last</li>
<li>Firehouse Subs while supplies last</li>
<li>Columbia Fire Department's Patches and Pumper</li>
<li>Columbia Fire Department Arson Dog demonstration (approximately 2pm)</li>
<li>Fire truck bounce house</li>
<li>Children's games</li>
<li>Face painting</li>
<li>Lowes will distribute 100 free smoke detectors on a first come, first serve basis</li>
<li>Fire truck tours</li>
</ul>
This years Fire Prevention Week Theme - 'Every second counts, Plan 2 Ways Out'. <br />
<ul style="list-style-type: circle;">
<li style="text-align: left; padding-left: 30px;">Have a home fire escape plan that includes two ways out and practice it twice a year</li>
<li style="text-align: left; padding-left: 30px;">Teach children how to escape on their own in case you're not home</li>
<li style="text-align: left; padding-left: 30px;">Make sure the number on your home is clearly marked and easy for the fire department to find</li>
<li style="text-align: left; padding-left: 30px;">Close doors behind you as you leave - this may slow the spread of heat, smoke and fire</li>
<li style="text-align: left; padding-left: 30px;">Once you get out, stay out.  Never go back inside a burning building</li>
</ul>
