(COLUMBIA, MO) - The annual City of Columbia Citizen's Handbook will arrive in residential mailboxes this week. This is the third year the handbook will reach every residential mailbox in Columbia.

This year's handbook highlights the personal impacts the City's 2016-2019 Strategic Plan is having on lives of Columbians. The Strategic Plan priorities of social equity, public safety, infrastructure, economy, and operational excellence are all featured in the publication through stories about affordable housing initiatives, supplier diversity, a youth basketball team coach by a police officer, regional job expansion, building community through events, improving our parks, connecting people with answers through the Contact Center, and personal stories of leadership and success.

"Sharing personal stories about how we are having a positive impact on the lives of our neighbors is a great way to show
how our Strategic Plan is working," City Manager Mike Matthes said.

The handbook visually depicts how the community is doing in terms of job growth, education, community policing and sales tax revenue. Readers will also find a breakdown of the fiscal year 2018 budget to see where the City is allocating money.

The handbook also features local artists. The art showcased includes submissions from the 2016 City of Columbia Commemorative Poster competition as well as submissions from previous years and murals from around Columbia. The cover features the 2016 Commemorative Poster winner: Missouri Riverbilly Band by Lisa Bartlett.

The City printed 72,000 copies of the handbook and the cost to print and mail the handbooks is 91 cents per copy. The City administration believes this money is a good investment in transparency and show citizens how the City is allocating their money.

The handbook can be viewed online at https://www.como.gov/community-relations/city-information/citizen-handbook, and copies will be available in the City Hall lobby, at the Columbia Convention and Visitors Bureau and other places around town.
