(COLUMBIA, MO) -
Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services (PHHS) provided thousands of Boone County students with free flu shots this year through its school-based flu clinics.

Thanks to the generous support from the University of Missouri Children's Hospital and the David B. Lichtenstein Foundation, PHHS nurses vaccinated 9,671 students between Sept. 26 and Nov. 10 in participating elementary, middle and high schools throughout Boone County, including all Boone County public schools. This is the largest number of students vaccinated by this program since it began in 2009.

As a reminder, flu season is not over. Adults and children are invited to get a flu shot anytime on Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at the PHHS clinic, 1005 W. Worley St. No appointment is needed; walk-ins are welcome. Thanks to generous support from MU Children's Hospital and the David B. Lichtenstein Foundation, PHHS continue to provide free flu vaccine to all children age six months through 18 years. For adults ages 19 and older, cost of the vaccine depends on insurance coverage; self-pay is $25. Stop in today and get vaccinated, as the vaccine can take up to two weeks to fully protect against influenza.
