(COLUMBIA, MO) - On Monday, December 18th 2017 at 12:02 AM, one unit from the Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to an automatic fire alarm at 3015 Lemone Industrial Blvd (Gates Rubber Corp.). After the initial dispatch, 911 operators made contact with an employee who advised there was a small fire in a chemical room. Additional units were dispatched to the scene.

Fire crews arrived on the scene and found a fire in a chemical room had been extinguished by an automatic sprinkler system. The fire was contained to the room of origin. One employee sustained minor burns during the fire but left the scene for medical care in a private vehicle prior to the arrival of fire crews.

The Columbia Fire Department Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the fire. Investigators determined the fire originated in the area of a chemical distiller. The cause is still under
investigation. Due to the complexity of machinery involved, a damage estimate is not yet available.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
