(COLUMBIA, MO) - On Wednesday, February 7th, 2018 at 10:59 PM, Columbia Fire Units were dispatched to 2603 Quail Drive for a residential structure fire. Crews arrived in less than four minutes and found light smoke coming from a two-story apartment building. A small fire was located in a bedroom on the second floor and quickly extinguished with a portable fire extinguisher. Three people were in the apartment at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. Working smoke alarms alerted the occupants who safely exited the structure.

The Columbia Fire Department Fire Marshal's Office conducted an investigation and determined the fire was caused by a space heater coming in contact with combustible items. Damages are estimated at $3500. The occupants were able to remain in the home due to the minor damage.

The Columbia Fire Department reminds residents to turn of
f space heaters when you are not in the room or area they are heating.
