(COLUMBIA, MO) - On Tuesday, April 10th 2018 at 2:37 AM, units from the Columbia Fire Department were dispatched to a residential structure fire at 113 W. Ash St. The first crew arrived less than four minutes later and found a duplex with heavy smoke visible from the structure.

Crews entered the structure and performed an interior fire attack, containing the fire in approximately 15 minutes. While searching the structure, fire crews located a dog which was removed from the structure and returned to the family. The dog appeared to be uninjured.

A total of four people were in the residence at the time of the fire. Working smoke alarms alerted occupants of the fire and they were able to escape uninjured. All occupants have been relocated to temporary housing. The fire damage estimate is $120,000.

The Columbia Fire Department Fire Mar
shal's Office conducted an investigation and determined the fire originated in the area of a clothes dryer which was in operation. The fire is ruled accidental.
