<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - United Airlines, which began service from Columbia Regional Airport to Denver and Chicago O'Hare International airports in August 2017, has invoiced the City of Columbia for revenue guarantee funds for the daily Columbia to Denver service.<br /><br />On June 5, 2017 the Columbia City Council approved B147-17 and authorized an Air Service Agreement with United Airlines. The contract stipulated a revenue guarantee in the maximum amount of $600,000 would be available to United per terms of the agreement. In addition, the City of Columbia would provide $250,000 towards marketing of the Denver service. <br /><br />The revenue guarantee was funded through both public and private donors. Revenue guarantee funds are used to incentivize airlines to provide new or additional air services in small to midsize regional markets. A similar revenue guarantee approved by the Columbia City Council in 2013 provided $
 
 3 million for a period of two years to American Airlines to establish air service to Dallas/Fort Worth and Chicago O'Hare International airports. <br /><br />City Manager Mike Matthes advised the revenue guarantee fund members on Tuesday, April 10 that United had invoiced the fund in the amount of $600,000. <br /><br />United Airlines has stated they plan to continue the Denver service this year without requesting additional revenue guarantee funds. United also operates two daily flights to Chicago O'Hare. The Chicago flights were not a part of the revenue guarantee.<br /><br />In his letter to the fund members, Matthes outlined record increases in passenger counts, additional service to a new destination, increased choices for air travelers in mid-Missouri and increased service by competing airlines at Columbia Regional as signs that the investment did what it was designed to do.</div>
