(COLUMBIA, MO) - Cloudy skies and chilly temperatures didn’t stop volunteers from participating in the 22nd annual Cleanup Columbia, a city-wide trash pick-up event, on Saturday, April 14. The City’s Volunteer Programs staff reports that approximately 1,450 volunteers participated, logging 2,726 hours of service and picking up 1,895 bags of trash. Volunteers were assigned to work in more than 160 locations.

Following the cleanup, about 300 volunteers attended a post-cleanup lunch at Twin Lakes Recreation Area to celebrate their efforts. Ward 2 Council Member Michael Trapp attended and shared appreciation to the volunteers.

Initial results are based on reports from 38 groups. Results for Cleanup Columbia will be updated as more groups report their efforts.

Event sponsors include 102.3 BXR, KFRU AM 1400, KOMU TV 8, the Mid-Missouri
CW, the Columbia Misssourian, Veterans United, and Socket. Golden K Kiwanis, City of Columbia Utilities - Solid Waste and Columbia Parks and Recreation also provided in-kind support.

Cleanup Columbia is organized by the City of Columbia’s Volunteer Programs. During Cleanup Columbia, volunteers pick up litter along streets, in parks and along streams and trails.

Additional updates on the work accomplished by Cleanup Columbia volunteers will be posted at CoMo.gov.
