<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - Two City of Columbia Finance Department employees were honored with awards at the recent   Missouri Association of Public Purchasing (MAPP) conference. <br /><br />Procurement Officer Michelle Sorensen was honored with the Linda D. Windsor Distinguished Service Award, which is MAPP’s highest honor. Some of the award criteria includes being an innovator in changing purchasing concepts and procedures, maintaining high ethical and moral standards, being an active participant and promoter of education and professional development, helping to enhance the objective and excellence of MAPP, and more. Sorensen has been employed with the City of Columbia since 2009.  <br /><br />Senior Procurement Officer Melissa Pasley was honored with the Buyer of Year Award (large entity). The Buyer of Year Award commemorate outstanding members' accomplishments during the previous year. Candidates are
 
  evaluated based on the contributions to the entity the person serves, contributions to The Institute for Public Procurement and the local chapter, and professionalism and ethics. Pasley has been employed with the City of Columbia since 2013. <br /><br />"When I became a buyer with the City in 2013, I never dreamed that I would be the recipient of this award. It is truly an honor to know that others thought I was deserving of it," Pasley said. "In addition, I am so happy for Michelle on her award. I think it says great things about the City of Columbia that we were both nominated and won."<br /><br />The recipients for both of these awards are nominated and voted on by public purchasing officials all across the state of Missouri.<br /><br />"These awards mean a lot to public purchasing profession and I am very proud of both Melissa and Michelle for all of their accomplishments.  They are both so deserving of these honors and I am very thankful they are ge
