<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - Columbia Ward 3 Council Member Karl Skala was recognized by National League of Cities (NLC) for reaching an achievement in their leadership program. Additionally, Skala was appointed to represent Columbia on three NLC councils/programs. <br /><br />Skala was recognized by NLC University for reaching the "Diamond Cum Laude Level" in the Certificate of Achievement in Leadership program. He is one of less than 60 NLC members to reach this level since the program’s inception in 1999. To reach this level, Skala had to earn 120 credits by taking seminars that encompass all four proficiency areas of the program curriculum, including management, leadership, engagement and expertise. Skala was previously recognized for the "Diamond Level" achievement in 2015.<br /><br />Skala was appointed to serve as a member of the University Communities Council; the Council for Race, Equity and 
 
 Leadership; and the NLC University Fellows program.<br /><br />The University Communities Council provides an opportunity for leaders to share ideas and creative solutions to the unique challenges affecting university communities. Members also help NLC gather, share, and analyze information about opportunities, issues and policies of interest to university communities.<br /><br />The Council for Race, Equity and Leadership strives to strengthen local leaders’ knowledge and capacity to eliminate racial disparities, heal racial divisions and build more equitable communities. The Council offers tools and resources designed to help local elected leaders build safe places where people from all racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds thrive socially, economically, academically and physically.<br /><br />The NLC University Fellows program includes up to 25 local officials who promote NLC University offerings, cultivate leaders within the organization, strengthen peer network
 
 ing and support among leaders committed to professional development and lifelong learning, increase connections to state municipal league educational programming, field-test new educational platforms or learning models and provide feedback on the overall program.<br /><br />The National League of Cities is a resource and advocate for more than 1,900 member cities of all sizes from across the United States. NLC is dedicated to helping city leaders build better communities through partnerships, coalitions and collaborations.</div>
