(COLUMBIA, MO) - Columbia Police officers safely ended a several hour standoff with a suspect on Greenleaves Court on June 25. Kevin Dean Snyder, 34, was arrested on the scene.

At 10:58 a.m., a call was made regarding a subject trespassing inside a home in the 1900 block of Greenleaves Court. The first police officer on scene arrived before noon. It was discovered that the individual inside the home, Snyder, had several outstanding warrants for his arrest, including being a parole absconder, and was possibly in possession of a firearm. After patrol officers attempted to make contact with no response, the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) and the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team were called to the scene.

After several hours of CNT and SWAT attempting to make contact with Snyder, a search warrant was obtained and gas was disbursed inside the residence. SWAT officers entered the home and Snyd
er surrendered without further issues. He was evaluated and cleared by medical personnel on scene. No other individuals were found in the residence.

Columbia Police Lt. Lance Bolinger, supervisor over the Special Operations Unit, SWAT, K-9 and Street Crimes, emphasized the importance of safety when dealing with suspects who are potentially armed.

"We evacuated the immediate neighbors and made sure the area was safe in our apprehension of the suspect," Bolinger said. "Safety is our number one priority, first of the public at large, then our officers, then the suspect. In this instance, our officers did everything they were supposed to in arresting the subject without any injuries or threat to the public."

Charges against Snyder are pending.
