(COLUMBIA, MO) -
The Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services Department (PHHS) invites the public to a free Hepatitis C testing event. The event will be held Friday, July 27 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the PHHS clinic, 1005 W. Worley St.

World Hepatitis Day is July 28. It is an opportunity for people worldwide to learn the global burden of the disease. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 325 million people worldwide are living with chronic viral hepatitis. The WHO reports that at least 60 percent of liver cancer cases are due to late testing and treatment of viral hepatitis B and C.

People born from 1945-1965 are five times more likely to be infected with Hepatitis C, according to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC recommends that anyone born from 1945-1965 get tested for Hepatitis C.

If left untreated, Hepatitis C can cause liver damage and liver failure. Knowing if you have Hepatitis C can help you to make important decisions about your health. Take a step toward health today, get tested and know your status.
