(COLUMBIA, MO) - Columbia City Manager Mike Matthes is pleased to announce the appointment of Janet Frazier to the post of Interim Finance Director. Frazier has agreed to serve part time while the City conducts a nationwide search to find a successor for Michele Nix.

Frazier recently retired as the City's Controller, and after decades of excellent service is profoundly knowledgeable about the operation of the City and the production of it's award-winning Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). She will provide a calm and knowledgeable support to Finance staff in this interim period.

"We are glad that Janet agreed to come back to lead the team until we find a person to fill the director position permanently. We are fortunate to have a deep bench of professionals who will ensure continuity of financial operations under Janet’s interim leadership," Matthes said.

Nix annou
nced her resignation to take on a once in a career opportunity with the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), the largest public pension fund in the United States. She has served Columbia for the past two years and leaves our Finance Department in excellent condition with significant projects completed (such as the City's new financial software system), and a focus on hiring talented new staff as the City struggles with increasing retirement and turnover rates. Her last day was Sept. 4.

A nationwide recruitment will be initiated in September with the goal of having the successful candidate in post by early 2019.
