(COLUMBIA, MO) -
City of Columbia Sewer Utility is holding an interested parties meeting from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27 at the Columbia Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant (CRWWTP), 4900 W. Gillespie Bridge Road. City staff will present the preliminary design and answer questions regarding improvements which will enhance the operation and capacity of the existing digester complex.

In 2007, the City retained Black & Veatch to provide the Conceptual Design Report for the CRWWTP improvements. The report recognized that upgrades and rehabilitation to the digester complex are necessary and should be considered separately from Phase 1 improvements. Phase 1 improvements were completed in 2014 using Sewer Bonds approved by voters in 2008 and included two new process trains and upgrades to most of the existing plant. The digester complex rehabilitation was included as a project to be partially funded by bonds approved by voters in 2013 and identified as Phase 2 of the CRWWTP improvements.

A public hearing for the project will be held in November, and if approved by City Council, final design documents will be prepared for construction beginning in late fiscal year 2019. The total investment for construction and engineering for this project are estimated at approximately $7,000,000.
