(COLUMBIA, MO) - The Columbia Police Department invites rental property managers to attend a training to address crime at rental properties. The Crime Free Multi-Housing Training will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 9 from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Regional Training Center, 5001 E. Meyer Industrial Drive.

Developed in 1992, the Crime Free Multi-Housing Program takes a multifaceted approach to crime prevention and includes a unique coalition of police, property managers and residents of rental properties. The program is designed to be an on-going program, including three phases, to address all the opportunities of crime in rental property. The training on Oct. 9 will be the first phase of the program.

One community liaison officer is dedicated to organizing and providing training for the program. Columbia Police Officer Jason McClintic was selected in 2017 to fill this role and serve at the Off
ice of Neighborhood Services.

"The program offers a comprehensive and streamlined approach to keeping multi-family homes safer," McClintic said.

There are seven fully certified Crime Free Multi-Housing properties in Columbia, five of which are student housing complexes. For a list of these properties, or to register for the training visit: CoMo.gov/Police/Crime-Free-Multi-Housing-Program.
