(COLUMBIA, MO) -
Columbia Police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance with a weapon in the 2400 block of Springdale Drive around 9 a.m. on Sept. 26.

The Police investigation revealed that during the course of a domestic dispute Brandie M. Sorm, 32, of Columbia discharged a weapon at her partner and then left the area with one of her minor children. Because Sorm has other minor children in the public school system, a number of Columbia Public Schools in the area were placed on lockdown.

Around 10 a.m., Columbia Police noticed Sorm’s vehicle on Paris Road near U.S. Highway 63 and initiated a traffic stop. Sorm stopped the vehicle and was taken into custody without incident. Sorm’s minor child was in the vehicle and was unharmed.

Sorm was arrested on the following charges:

Domestic Assault - 1st Degree

Armed Criminal Action

Child Endangerment - 1st Degree

Felony Property Damage

Sorm is being processed at the Columbia Police Department and will be remained to the custody of the Boone County Jail after processing.

Columbia Public Schools provided this report on the schools which were in lockdown during the incident:

At 9:28 a.m. Oakland, Lange, Blue Ridge and Center for Early Learning North were placed in a modified lockdown. Modified means no one in or out. School continues normally inside the building.

At 9:50 a.m. Cedar Ridge was placed in a full lockdown. Full lockdown means shelter in place and we follow full safety protocols.

At 9:57 a.m. Cedar Ridge full lockdown was lifted.

At 9:58 a.m. Modified lockdown at Center for Early Learning North and Oakland was lifted.

At 9:58 a.m. Hickman was placed in modified lockdown. Blue Ridge and Lange still remained in modified lockdown.

At 10:18 a.m. Modified lockdowns were lifted at Blue Ridge, Hickman and Lange.
