<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:200%;"><h3 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px;  margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 170%;">City of Columbia Disabilities Commission to hold press conference Nov. 8 to demonstrate Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle Taxi Program</h3>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - The Disabilities Commission is hosting a brief press conference to provide an opportunity for members of the public and media to see the Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) Taxi Program automobiles and learn more.<br /><br />Date: Thursday, Nov. 8<br />Time: 2:30 - 3:00 p.m.<br />Location: Walton Building, 300 S. Providence<br /><br />The WAV taxis will be at the press conference, along with the recipient of two of the program agreements, Taxi Terry. There will also be more information about the WAV Taxi Program, the upcoming availability of another WAV Taxi Agreement, and the Chair of the Disabilities Commission, City staff and Taxi Terry will be there to answer any questions. <br /><br />The WAV Taxi Program was created at the request of the City’s Disabilities Commission to increase the number of WAV taxis in Columbia and thereby improve independent travel opportunities for residents and v
 
 isitors who use wheelchairs. The program aims to improve on-demand travel beyond the scope of public transit or pre-scheduled trips.<br /><br />Under this program, the City issues for competitive bid up to a $15,000 WAV Taxi Service Agreement to a contractor willing to purchase a WAV and operate it as a taxi in the community for a minimum of three years under certain terms and conditions. Bid responses are reviewed by the Commission who make recommendations to City Council for approval.<br /><br />In October 2018, the first two WAV taxis from this program passed inspection and began offering service in Columbia.<br /><br />Following the press conference, the Disabilities Commission will host its regular monthly meeting that is open to the public.</div>
