City of Columbia plow crew set to begin winter weather operations Sunday afternoon

(COLUMBIA, MO) -
A 14-person plow crew is set to report on Sunday at 2 p.m. in response to the major winter weather system moving through Missouri tomorrow.

"We are also planning to have a 10- to 14-person crew in overnight as well but we will make that call as conditions develop," Public Works Engineering Manager Richard Stone said.

It is currently anticipated that Columbia will see rain mostly until late afternoon transitioning to snow at some point with pavement temperatures remaining above freezing until nightfall. This could lead to spotty slick conditions.

Columbia could see anywhere between less than half an inch to 2 inches. If we do reach 2 inches of snow, all parked cars must be moved off of priority routes by City ordinance. To be reminded of when it’s time to move cars off of priority routes, sign up for alerts at Nixle.com or by texting the phrase COLUMBIAPW to 888777.

The forecast is subject to change if the weather pattern shifts. Additional crews remain on standby if needed. Crews may be called in earlier if the weather pattern moves in faster than expected. Stay tuned to your local and national forecasts. Avoid travel during any active winter weather event.
