<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - During a special council meeting on Nov. 26, the Columbia City Council voted to appoint Deputy City Manager John Glascock to interim city manager until Council hires a permanent city manager. <br /><br />"As the City Council begins a search for a new city manager to help lead Columbia forward, we are thankful to have excellent City staff that works hard every day to continue the progress we have made," Mayor Brian Treece said. "I am confident John will continue to make Columbia the best place to live, work, learn and play."<br /><br />Glascock was hired by the City of Columbia in 2003 as the Public Works chief engineer and was promoted to Public Works director in 2005. In 2008, Glascock served as the interim director of Water & Light. In 2015, Glascock was tapped for the position of deputy city manager and led the reorganization efforts to form City of Columbia Utilities to 
 
 include Water & Light, Sewer, Stormwater and Solid Waste. <br /><br />"As we move forward, my goals are to provide a smooth and seamless transition, to instill confidence and trust in our governance to both our citizens and our employees, and to continue to improve our ability to provide the services our community expects in a fiscally responsible and transparent manner," Glascock said. "We will continue to make Columbia the best place for people to work, learn, live and play."<br /><br />Glascock holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri and a Professional Engineer License from the state of Missouri. Glascock is a native of Boone County and has spent most of his life in the area. <br /><br />Glascock’s salary for serving as interim city manager was set by City Council at $164,822.11 annually. <br /><br />A photo of Glascock is attached. <br /><br />Former City Manager Mike Matthes submitted his res
